The Challenge

Mixed User

Even though the app is for seniors, 75% of the users were caregivers, mostly aged 25-35. We faced the challenge of designing something that works well for both age groups.

Fighting Standards

The challenge is designing an app for senior citizens, as general standards don’t meet their needs. It must feature clear text, simple navigation, easy-to-use buttons, calming visuals, and high contrast for better accessibility.

Usability For Seniors

The challenge is gathering input from senior citizens, combining it into a smooth experience, and optimizing input fields and CTAs. Simplifying information consumption and streamlining the buying process are key to making the app easy and accessible for seniors.

Design Process

Discover

In the discovery phase, we gained a deep understanding of the user requirements, business goals, competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, industry trends, and the current state of the product.

Define

In the define phase, we analysed the information we’ve obtained to draw insights and defined the goals, objectives, and our strategy moving forward into the process.

Design

In this phase, we generated and explored a wide range of concepts through wireframes and lo-fi prototypes. We then developed a design language and applied the same throughout the designs.

The Objective

To create a lifestyle mobile app that serves as an interactive platform for older adults (50+) to explore, get advice, have fun, join communities, and shop. The app will be easy to use for seniors while also appealing to younger users who may use it frequently. It will include blog content as a key feature, offer a simple and modern design, provide helpful assistance, and be lightweight with minimal storage requirements.

We carried out in-depth user interviews with 8 participants to gain insight into their lifestyles, thought processes, and requirements. This allowed us to better understand the users’ perspective and inform our design decisions accordingly.

They also join events to stay connected and social. This combination helps them stay mentally active, informed, and emotionally fulfilled, making their daily lives richer and more enjoyable.

Streamlining Payments & Communication

Voice-based technology and easy online payments are changing the way we interact with services. Research shows these solutions are more convenient, accessible, and secure for elderlies making everyday tasks like paying for services easier and faster.

User Testing

The goal is to understand how real people use the product. In usability testing, users try to complete common tasks with the product in a controlled setting. By learning what users expect before they see the product, we can analyze how well it matches their way of thinking.

Browsing Simplified

Designing an app with easy access, simple browsing, and clear touch zones to help both younger users (25-35) and older users (50+) navigate smoothly. This makes it easy for everyone to explore and use the app comfortably, no matter their age.

Empowering Seniors

Let elders easily share their shopping cart with a family member or caretaker. They can also send a payment link, making it simple for others to help with purchases, giving elders more independence and support.

Increasing Engagement Through Rewards

We’ve boosted user engagement by letting you earn points just by using the app! Shop more and earn more points! You can also earn rewards by referring friends, get a welcome bonus when you sign up, and receive points for reviewing products. Adding a reward system increases user engagement by encouraging users to interact more frequently with the app, motivating them to participate in activities that earn them points. It’s an easy way to enjoy more perks while you shop.
